COUNCIL MEETING

Tuesday December 5, 2017

 

The Board of Aldermen held a regular meeting on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Those present included Mayor Greg Richmond, Alderpersons Calvin Wilson, Keith Kohley, Ron Johnson and Alice Kezar. Also present were City Supervisor David Brodie, Police Chief Curt Drake, Tax Collector Meghan Sexson, Emergency Management Director Denis Kolb, Water Clerk Dana Cornwell and City Clerk Karla McNorton. Also present were Roger and Carol Coe, Lois Kolb, Jared Mackall, and Sally Carroll from the McDonald County Press.

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

The Board discussed the regular meeting minutes from November 21, 2017. Ald. Wilson moved to approve the regular meeting minutes held on November 21, 2017. Ald. Kohley seconded. Ald. Johnson, Kezar, Kohley and Wilson voted aye with 0 nays.

The Board discussed the Comprehensive Plan meeting from November 28, 2017. Ald. Wilson mentioned it was not noted that Ald. Kohley was not present. Ald. Wilson moved to approve Comprehensive Plan meeting held on November 28, 2017 with the amendment. Ald. Johnson seconded. Ald. Johnson, Kezar and Wilson voted aye and Ald. Kohley abstained.

Old Business: Ald. Kohley asked where we were on the condemnation of 108 W. Williams.

City Clerk McNorton noted that City Attorney Duane Cooper is still working on the facts of finding letter. Chief Drake did mention that a contractor who has repaired several houses in the City is looking into purchasing the property. He is doing the research right now into how much it would cost to repair and the purchase price. McNorton noted that it would be good for the person to purchase the property as the owner probably will not demolish the property in the allotted time and the City would have to pay for the demolition at the tax payers’ expense.

Department head reports

Curt Drake-Curt noted the research into the S.U.V.’s power steering pump being replaced was actually the Police truck having repairs done. He asked that the Board consider letting Goodman Tire and Auto replace it at the estimated cost of $400.00 with parts and labor. After a brief discussion, Ald. Wilson move to approve Goodman Tire and Auto replace the power steering pump for up to $500.00. Ald. Johnson seconded. Ald. Johnson, Kezar, Kohley and Wilson voted aye with 0 nays.

Curt then noted that Senior Officer Joe David got with Bella Vista Police Department and the Bella Vista Police Department has generously donated 30 sets of uniforms, a cage with built in gun rack for the Dodge Charger and a brand new computer mount for the car. It was agreed to get a thank you card to send to Bella Vista P.D.

Denis Kolb-Nothing to report.

David Brodie- David informed the Board the lights at the ballpark are completed and the Recreation Department is happy.

Meghan Sexson- Nothing to report.

Karla McNorton- Nothing to report

The Board discussed the bills in the amount of $33,157.50 including transfers. Ald. Kezar moved to approve the bills in the amount of $33,157.50 including transfers. Ald. Johnson seconded. Ald. Johnson, Kezar, Kohley and Wilson voted aye with 0 nays.

Ald. Wilson moved to adjourn the meeting. Ald. Kohley seconded. Ald. Johnson, Kezar, Kohley and Wilson voted aye with 0 nays.
